NSU is partnered with the Health Systems Management Association (HeSMA), the only Professional Association for health care managers in Africa based in Nairobi to train health professionals in the continent with the necessary knowledge, skills and learning experiences needed to execute on their routine and daily work professionally based on the latest technological, scientific evidences and innovational approaches in Healthcare Administration and Management delivered in the advanced learning space events by the field experts, and leading specialists in Health Systems Management; usually by means of teaching distance learning courses in Healthcare Administration.

Why you NEED this certificate program starting in January 14th, 2019
Health systems globally are experiencing dramatic changes and constant restructuring due to services demand and regulatory forces. HeSMA East Africa, HeSMA SOM, CIHSA, and AZV (non-profit organizations) in partnership with Northeastern State University (NSU) have developed a specialized Leadership, Management and Governance (LMG) Program for healthcare professionals. This program is designed to offer practical solutions that not only help participants survive the present healthcare challenges, but enables leaders to thrive in these challenging times. Courses are tailored to reflect applicable circumstances in international markets (locally relevant topics). Courses include multi-national participant-inter-changes in order to share diverse perspectives. As part of the LMG Program, we are offering this course that focuses on practical learning applications essential to develop leadership traits proven by great healthcare leaders. This course is 10-weeks in duration, and 100% online program developed for physician leaders, healthcare executives, and managers (learning at their own pace and place). 

Course Summary
 Essential Leadership Traits of Great Healthcare Leaders for the 21st Century
This course explores in detail the critical leadership attributes that are necessary to create organizational collaboration and integrated healthcare initiatives that promote value-based care and cost effective quality.
Key topics in this course include:
1. Understanding the attributes of great leaders and addresses the question – are they innate or developed?
2. Exploring the essential traits of great leaders
3. Examining the value of Talent, Inspiration and Charisma
4. Reviewing the building blocks of good Communications, Relationships and Trust
 5. Understanding the main elements of Influence vs Coercion and Respecting Others
6. Learning how to create a Culture of Excellence
7. Learning how to identify and survive environmental “game changers”
8. Measuring Competencies through assessment tools for leaders

Learning Format, Materials and Objectives
The NSU CE courses are designed to meet the needs of busy professionals. The NSU Healthcare Contemporary Issues Certificate Program curriculum includes customized high quality, and timely learning opportunities taught by experienced healthcare executives using NSU’s proprietary Blackboard e-learning system. All learning materials are 100 percent Internet accessible. Each of the 10-week course is based on approximately 35 contact hours of study and instruction.

 Eligibility criteria:
 1. Diploma in a health related discipline with 2 or more years of work experience.
 2. Degree in a health related discipline, medical practice, or management / administration.

Investment
 Course fee: USD$250.00 for affiliates of international organizations that are partnered with Northeastern State University (NSU). Non-affiliates will be charged the regular fee of USD$400.00. The fees include all required learning materials, tuition, CEUs, and taxes.

Certification 
Upon successful course completion, CPD Points will be awarded by the local licensing or certification agency. Participants will also receive a Certificate of Completion and 3.2 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Northeastern State University (USA university partner). The points earned in this course may also apply to the International LMG Certification Program.

Awards Received for this Educational Program

)     1) LERN International Award Recipient December 10, 2015 -- Northeastern State University, Department of Continuing Education has been honored for excellence in the Best Programming category by the Learning Resources Network (LERN), the world’s largest lifelong learning association.  The winning entry was included in a showcase of internationally exemplary programs at the 2015 LERN Annual Conference in New Orleans. Julie Coates, LERN’s Senior Vice President of Information Services said this year’s award nominees were of exceptionally high quality.  In northeast Oklahoma, this program jumped into online programming, with an e-Learning certificate program targeted to 25,000 healthcare administrators and physicians in Somalia, Nigeria and Kenya.  The online certificate program consists of seven, eight-week classes, complete with content that is relevant to international markets. “What won the award was the identification of the need for an audience half a world away and then reaching this new market and demand,” said Coates.

        2) Outstanding Services to Underserved Populations Award recipient
The Northeastern State University College of Extended Learning has been presented with the 2018 Outstanding Services to Underserved Populations Award from the Association for Continuing Higher Education. The award recognizes the Healthcare Administration Certificate Program which uses an online format to make US certification a possibility for international health professionals.
Students of the Certificate Program include Healthcare Professionals in Somalia, Somaliland,  Puntland, Kenya and Cayman Islands giving special consideration in their local context and economic realities that we have adapted the teaching delivery methods and costs to these learners in order to make them more relevant and affordable to distant underserved communities- expanding the universities reach far beyond Oklahoma’s borders.
