Dr. Qasim of Imperial Healthcare provides honorary sight-saving double corneal transplants to an underprivileged 5-year-old child from Somalia.

Orphan Child Freed From Permanent Blindness and Shown the Light by Dr. Qasim Qasim of Imperial Healthcare

The Holy month of Ramadan and the Giving Year of Zayed have both prompted a tearful inspiring medical event at the Heart of Dubai in Dubai Healthcare City.
Anbyou Idris is a five year old child from Somalia, an orphan who lost both parents and was unfortunate to lose her sight following a severe corneal infection at the age of two. She was unable to attain any useful education and was practically excluded from society. Living in an unprivileged area with very poor health services, her grandmother had nothing but prayers to offer her. Her story touched the heart and ears of another Somali Lady living in Dubai, who connected the child to Dr Qasim and facilitated financial and logistic arrangements via different authorities and parties.
What seemed to be impossible, started to happen and the child arrived in Dubai to commence treatment. A number of operations were performed involving both eyes receiving human donor corneal transplants, along with cataract removal in both eyes.
Anbyou was able to recover her sight and see again for the 1st time after 3 years. She started to discover her surroundings and, after years, a radiant smile was back on her face.
Dr Qasim shared, “We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to bring light back into this little girl’s life and to extend happiness to others like her whilst practicing in Dubai. The successful execution of these types of complex surgeries is evidence to the standard and quality of care that our surgical practice in Dubai is able to deliver.” Dr. Qasim further expressed, “The blessings that each of us at Imperial Healthcare received from the little girl and her grand-mother are well beyond what words can describe.”
Imperial Healthcare is recognized for its comprehensive Ophthalmology Treatment protocols along with pioneering techniques such as SupraLASIK™, the unique non-surgical solution to vision correction, and the SupraLIFT™, the noninvasive eyelid procedure to achieve similar results as blepharoplasty surgery.
